San Diego County News Center reports that all CalFresh recipients and new Disaster CalFresh recipients are now able to purchase hot and prepared food through their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card due to the effects of the January 22 storms and flooding. This temporary change, approved by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, allows for a limited-time exception to the usual restrictions on EBT card usage.

The FNS has communicated this modification to all authorized EBT retailers in San Diego County, urging them to inform customers of this opportunity. The waiver is in response to conditions such as power outages, home damage, resident displacement, and other factors that hinder households from accessing and preparing food.

In addition, San Diego County News Center highlights that the Disaster CalFresh application period has opened from March 7-15 for individuals facing difficulties stemming from the January rainstorm and flooding. This program offers a one-time payment to assist with purchasing food for both individuals and their families.

For more information and a list of authorized EBT retailers, individuals can visit fns.usda.gov.

This initiative aims to support those impacted by the recent disasters and provide essential assistance during challenging times.
