May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a period dedicated to emphasizing the significance of mental health and reminding individuals that they are not alone in their struggles. During this time, people are urged to connect with friends and family, learn about available resources, and seek support for their own mental health or that of a loved one. The County Behavioral Health Services has launched the 30-Day Mental Wellness Practice initiative as an accessible way to engage in daily self-care activities.
"Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of taking care of our mind and emotions," said Dr. Luke Bergmann, Director of County Behavioral Health Services. "The 30-Day Mental Wellness Practice is a great way to get started and try new self-care activities that we hope people will make part of their everyday lives."
The 30-Day Mental Wellness kit comprises 40 self-care practices and activity worksheets, phone wallpapers, among other resources. These materials are available in both English and Spanish. The suggested self-care activities range from establishing a nighttime routine to trying out a new recipe, reaching out to a loved one, embarking on a one-day digital detox, coloring or simply watching the sunset.
Resources have been made available for those grappling with mental health challenges that can affect thinking patterns, emotions, behaviors or mood. For anyone experiencing such challenges or knows someone who is, they can reach out to the Access and Crisis Line at 1-888-724-7240.
County News Center also provides mental health resources and information services tailored for older adults and veterans.
