San Diego County will host a virtual community budget session at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. This event follows an earlier open house on the recommended County budget. During the session, County budget experts will present details on the $8.48 billion recommended budget and hold a moderated comment period.

The proposed budget aims to maintain core services and allocate funds toward key priorities such as behavioral health, housing, homelessness, justice reform, public safety, and infrastructure improvements like roads. The County also provides various regional services including food and restaurant inspections, beach and bay water testing, elections, social services, health programs, foster care, and adult protective services.

For residents living outside of the region’s 18 cities in unincorporated areas, the County offers city-type services such as police and fire protection along with maintaining parks, libraries, and roads.

Those interested in attending the virtual session can find meeting information at Engage San Diego County. Registration is available for those who wish to attend or require language and accessibility services. A recording of the session will be accessible in English and Spanish on Engage San Diego County after the meeting.

Comments can be submitted through Engage San Diego County or by emailing engage@sd.county.ca.gov until 5 p.m. on June 13. For more detailed information about the budget, residents can review an executive summary or the full recommended budget plan.

Budget hearings are scheduled before the Board of Supervisors at 9 a.m. on Tuesday June 4 and at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday June 6. The Board will deliberate and adopt the final budget on June 25 with it taking effect from July 1.
