Grief and loss can significantly impact an individual's mental health, leading to depression, anxiety, sleep issues, isolation, and physical health problems. There is no universal method for grieving as each person's experience is unique.

Sharing and discussing one's loss is a crucial step in the grieving process and essential for healing. It can alleviate the burden of pain and prevent feelings of isolation. Mental health support is available for those struggling with grief through resources like the San Diego Access and Crisis Line (ACL), which operates 24/7 with experienced counselors providing immediate assistance.

County employee Elene Bratton lost her son Jamie over 20 years ago. Her journey through the intense grief of losing a child revealed that she had no control over the grieving timeline and could not cope alone. To honor her grief, create a legacy, and celebrate her son's life, Elene wrote a book titled "Jamie’s Joy."

For those seeking further support or community connection, events such as NAMIWalks and Wellness Expo provide opportunities to take a moment for mental health.
