As the new year begins, residents of San Diego have the opportunity to catch up on their reading by reviewing the most popular checkouts from 2024. The San Diego County Library has published its top ten lists for books, downloadable audiobooks, movies, and more.
The library continues to gain popularity, with a reported 11,610,909 checkouts last year. This marks a 9% increase from 2023. Notably, for the first time ever, physical and digital checkouts are almost evenly split.
Library cards remain free of charge and can be obtained by visiting any of the library's 33 branch locations or by applying online for a digital card.
For those interested in adult books, downloadable audiobooks, movies, teen fiction (print/physical checkouts only), and children's books, these lists provide an insightful look into what captivated San Diegans over the past year.
In addition to offering access to literature and media, the County Library has achieved recognition as the first in California to be certified sustainable. Other initiatives include providing Cool Zones during hot weather periods and engaging local seniors through activities like Tai Chi.
Residents can stay informed about such developments by subscribing to receive stories directly from the County News Center via email.
