The San Diego County News Center reported that Valentine’s Day began with showers but ended with sunshine for couples getting married. The Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk’s (ARCC) offices were busy with bridal gowns, hearts, and flowers as they hosted weddings across the region.

Valentine's Day is one of the busiest days for weddings at ARCC. This year, 153 marriage licenses were issued and 108 wedding ceremonies were conducted across four ARCC locations. In comparison, the record for Valentine's Day was set in 2014 when 266 licenses were issued and 242 ceremonies took place.

Despite appointments being booked in advance, walk-ins were still welcome at the downtown ARCC office. Additionally, twenty couples received free marriage license and ceremony packages thanks to a partnership between ARCC and the Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation. Radio Channel 93.3 also contributed by giving away ten wedding packages on their morning show.

The yearly average for marriage licenses at ARCC is nearly 25,000, with over 12,000 ceremonies performed annually. Half of those who obtain a marriage license also choose to have their ceremony at an ARCC office.

For more details on obtaining a marriage license or reserving a date for a civil wedding ceremony, individuals are encouraged to visit the Marriage License & Civil Ceremony website.
