The National Weather Service has forecasted heavy rain across San Diego County this week. In response, the County and CAL FIRE are offering driving tips and free sandbags to residents and businesses in unincorporated areas.

County emergency services and public works road crews advise caution when driving in rainy conditions. They recommend avoiding travel during heavy rain unless necessary.

For those living in unincorporated areas, the County and CAL FIRE continue their tradition of providing free sandbags. These can be collected at various fire stations, although residents should call ahead to confirm availability and bring a shovel for filling the bags. Supplies may be limited at some locations.

Rain poses risks such as flooding and erosion, especially in areas lacking vegetation. Runoff can carry debris downstream, potentially damaging infrastructure like homes, culverts, storm drains, and roads.

Residents are advised to visit AlertSanDiego.org for guidance on handling emergencies during the rainy season.
