Rep. Scott Peters, currently representing California's 50th district in the U.S. Congress, has expressed his views on key issues via social media. The discussions focus on protections for Ukrainian refugees and scientific research funding in the face of policy actions by the Trump administration.

On April 10, 2025, Peters highlighted his collaborative effort with colleagues to advocate for the Trump Administration to extend protections for Ukrainian refugees. He stated, "I've joined my colleagues to urge the Trump Administration to extend protections for Ukrainian refugees, including Temporary Protected Status, humanitarian parole, and other lawful programs."

In a second tweet on the same day, Peters criticized the administration's approach to Ukrainian refugees, describing it as harsh. He clarified that, despite a misstep in communication, the legal status for Ukrainians has not been rescinded. Peters tweeted, "President Trump’s threat to end temporary parole status for 240,000 Ukrainians and stop allowing Ukrainian refugees to come to the U.S. is cruel. However, to be clear: this week's email was a mistake and legal status for Ukrainians living here has NOT been revoked. I’ll keep".

On April 11, 2025, Peters criticized the Trump administration's stance on scientific research funding, particularly concerning diseases like Parkinson's. He emphasized that undermining NIH funding is inefficient and unconnected to broader economic challenges. He wrote, "We will lose decades of progress we’ve made to treat and cure diseases like Parkinson’s if the Trump administration continues to attack scientific researchers and critical NIH funding. It's wasteful and does nothing to address the cost of living or other challenges."

Peters has served in the U.S. Congress since 2013 and holds a BA from Duke University and a JD from New York University. He, age 64, was born in Springfield, Ohio, and resides in San Diego.
