San Diego County is encouraging residents to celebrate Earth Month with a variety of events and activities under the theme "Our Power, Our Planet." The County is hosting an Earth Fair at the County Operations Center on April 18, where various departments and partner organizations will promote environmental sustainability efforts.
The fair will feature booths that showcase the County's initiatives, such as Vector Control's pest detection work, General Services' electric vehicles, and Public Works' waterscape program. The County Library will provide an outreach electric van. Participating organizations include the San Diego River Park Foundation and Surfrider Foundation.
Additional events include a household hazardous waste disposal on April 19 at Fallbrook High School, a hike on the Ernie Pantoja Memorial Trail at Dos Picos County Park on April 20, and another hike at Dictionary Hill County Preserve on April 27. On April 26, there will be a waterway cleanup organized by I Love a Clean San Diego at several county parks, and during Earth Week, children's books will be displayed in family-friendly parks.
"Reading with Rosy," an interactive event at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center, will be held on April 19, featuring a snake workshop and a lagoon trail walk. A picnic with Nubian goats is planned for April 20 at Los Penasquitos Ranch House.
The County also advises visiting sandiegocounty.gov/earthday for more information on these activities and sustainable practices. More events and activities will be held throughout May.
"April is Earth Month. Celebrated throughout the globe, this year's theme is 'Our Power, Our Planet' and includes a call for people to pledge to do something to make our planet greener."
