Rep. Scott Peters has been actively voicing his views on pressing national and local issues through his social media presence. Representing California’s 50th district in the U.S. Congress, Peters has touched on environmental concerns, budgetary priorities, and the ongoing problem of gun violence in his recent communications.
On April 16, 2025, Rep. Peters highlighted the environmental crisis concerning the Tijuana River, which has been "designated the 2nd most endangered river in America." Addressing this critical environmental situation, Peters expressed that although it was "not good news," it would maintain national focus on resolving the adverse effects on the environment and public health in San Diego.
A day later, on April 17, 2025, Peters turned his attention to budgetary issues, accusing Republicans of attempting to finance tax cuts by slashing essential programs. He stated unequivocally that "Republicans are trying to cut funding for critical programs and services so they can pay for tax cuts for people who don’t need them." Peters criticized their budget as "cruel and not at all fiscally responsible," and confirmed he voted against it.
On the same day, Peters commented on the tragic incident at Florida State University by expressing his sympathy for the victims and their families. He described the incident as a grim reminder of the "devastation wrought by gun violence," and insisted that vigilance against such tragedies must continue, even amid current administrative challenges. He emphasized that "our children deserve so much better" in terms of safety and protection from gun violence.
Rep. Scott Peters, originally from Springfield, Ohio, has served the 50th District of California since 2013. A graduate of Duke University and New York University, he is a resident of San Diego, driving his focus on both national issues and those affecting his district directly.
