A Belgian Malinois named Eagle, aged two, is recovering after being found injured by a County Animal Services officer during an unrelated investigation. Lt. N. Harrington discovered the dog with a severe wound on her hind leg and faced challenges as the owner was unwilling to seek medical care or surrender Eagle.

The situation led to a court-ordered seizure, allowing Eagle to receive urgent veterinary treatment. Despite efforts, her leg could not be saved, necessitating an expensive surgery covered by the Spirit Fund.

Lt. Harrington shared positive news about Eagle's recovery: “She’s almost all healed and she’s doing great.” Although not yet available for adoption, there is hope that she will be soon.

Eagle's behavior has improved significantly since the surgery, showing more openness towards people. The Spirit Medical Fund was created in 2008 following public donations to aid another injured puppy named Spirit. The fund continues to support animals needing emergency care.

Community members can assist animals like Eagle through adoption, fostering, or contributing to the Spirit Medical Fund. Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online or via mail addressed to County Animal Services with “Donation for Spirit Fund” noted on checks.
