Mira Mesa Epicentre renovation project begins with community input

County officials and community members gathered to initiate the renovation of the Mira Mesa Epicentre, transforming it into a County-operated community center. The facility, located at 8450 Mira Mesa Boulevard, will be rebuilt to serve as an open recreation center for youth.

The design of the new center incorporates community input and includes various features such as a multifunctional pickleball and basketball court, a community garden, an open lawn area, rentable community space, a music room, a game room, a practice kitchen, and flexible study and work areas.

The aim is to provide innovative programming for youth and intergenerational groups while offering recreational and entertainment opportunities. The center is also expected to enhance access to public services and improve safety in the Mira Mesa area.

Additionally, the facility will host SD Nights—Safe Destination Nights—a program that offers safe venues for teens across the county during critical hours. The County’s Department of Parks and Recreation engaged with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to gather feedback on their needs for the facility. This input has been integral in shaping the design and planned features of the center.

Construction is set to begin next month with an expected completion date in Fall 2026. For further details about the project, interested parties can visit sdparks.org.
