Residents of San Diego County's First Supervisorial District must register by March 24 to vote in the special primary election scheduled for April 8. Those who do not register by this date will need to visit a vote center in person starting March 29 to conditionally register and vote provisionally until April 8.
The election aims to fill the district’s vacant seat for the remainder of the term ending January 2029. If no candidate secures a majority, the top two candidates will advance to a special general election on July 1. Only residents of District 1 are eligible to participate in this election.
District 1 extends from the Pacific Ocean eastward to the Otay and San Miguel mountains, and from Barrio Logan southward to the U.S./Mexico border. It includes Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, parts of San Diego like Barrio Logan and East Village, and unincorporated areas such as Bonita and East Otay Mesa.
To check if you reside in District 1 or for online registration, visit sdvote.com. Voter registration can be completed online or through mail with forms postmarked or delivered by March 24. Registration is also available over the phone at (800) 696-0136 or via email at rovmail@sdcounty.ca.gov.
Language assistance is provided with materials available in Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Chinese. Early voting has started at the Registrar’s office during business hours until Friday before Cesar Chavez Day when it will close on March 31.
Starting March 29, seven vote centers will open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., expanding to thirteen centers plus extended hours on April 8. Locations for voting centers and ballot drop boxes are detailed in voter information pamphlets accessible online.
