Residents of San Diego County's First Supervisorial District can cast their ballots early for the special primary election beginning Saturday, March 29. Seven vote centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Monday, April 7. These locations include Bonita-Sunnyside Branch Library, Chula Vista City Hall, County of San Diego HHSA, West View Elementary, Mountain View Community Center, San Ysidro Senior Center, and Spring Valley Community Center.

On Tuesday, April 8, an additional six vote centers will be available, increasing the total number to 13. Operating hours on that day will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find a nearby vote center or official ballot drop box in their voter information pamphlet or online at sdvote.com.

The new vote centers have replaced traditional polling places and offer additional services. Voters can use touch screens to make selections on ballot marking devices. After voting, they must print the official ballot, review it, place it in a secrecy sleeve, and hand it to a poll worker for counting at the Registrar’s office. The devices do not store, tabulate, or count votes.

It is prohibited to campaign or electioneer within 100 feet of a vote center or ballot drop box, including displaying or sharing information for or against any candidate. Additionally, circulating petitions is not allowed.

The election will determine who fills the vacant district seat for the remaining term ending in January 2029. If no candidate wins a majority on April 8, the two with the most votes will proceed to a general election on July 1. Only district residents may vote.

District 1 stretches from the Pacific Ocean to Otay and San Miguel mountains and from Barrio Logan to the U.S./Mexico border. It encompasses Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, parts of San Diego, and unincorporated areas like Bonita and East Otay Mesa.

Residents unsure of their district can visit sdvote.com to confirm. Voters are encouraged to mail their ballots or use one of 29 official drop boxes, open 24 hours until 8 p.m. on April 8. Ballots should be signed and dated before submission to ensure they are counted.
