San Diego County is implementing changes to facilitate public participation in Board of Supervisors meetings. Starting April 2, the process for speaking at these meetings will be streamlined. Previously, attendees had to fill out a speaker slip before the meeting began, either in person or online if they planned to speak by phone.

With the new system, paper slips and waiting in line are no longer required. Individuals can submit a simplified speaker slip online using their devices at any time before public comments on an item begin during the meeting. For those speaking by phone, the system will provide real-time notifications about their position in line and even call them when it is their turn to speak.

To assist the public with this transition, the County Clerk of the Board of Supervisors will conduct three informational webinars on Zoom. These sessions aim to demonstrate how the new system works and address any questions participants may have. Additionally, county staff will be present at Board meetings to offer on-site assistance for signing up to speak.

"Making it easier for people to engage with County government is of utmost importance to us," said a representative from San Diego County. "This new public comment system is designed to do just that."

For further details about using this system or general information regarding Board meetings and agendas, individuals are encouraged to visit the County Clerk of the Board’s website.
