San Diego County's Registrar of Voters has sent out reminders to over 345,000 registered voters in the First Supervisorial District, urging them to cast their votes for the upcoming special primary election scheduled for April 8. The election will fill a district seat vacated for the remainder of the term ending in January 2029. If no candidate secures a majority, a special general election will take place on July 1 with the top two candidates.
The voting district covers areas from the Pacific Ocean to the Otay and San Miguel mountains, stretching from Barrio Logan to the U.S./Mexico border. Cities within this district include Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and certain San Diego communities like Barrio Logan, East Village, and Golden Hill, among others. Unincorporated regions include Bonita, East Otay Mesa, Lincoln Acres, Sunnyside, and La Presa.
Eligible voters unsure of their district can verify their status at sdvote.com. To participate, voters can mail the ballot or drop it at any of the Registrar’s 29 official ballot drop boxes without needing postage. It is crucial to sign and date the return ballot envelope for the vote to count. The drop boxes are available until 8 p.m. on April 8.
Early in-person voting will commence on March 29 at seven vote centers, which will operate daily until April 8. On the election day, the centers will extend their hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find the nearest voting locations or drop boxes using their voter information pamphlet or the online tools at sdvote.com.
